Welcome to the Unreal.ie Forum. There are many subforums for specific topics as well as a General forum for off-topic threads. We, the Admins, ask that you read this charter and accept it's rules before posting on the forums.
The Golden Rule:
There is no free speech!
- This is a privately owned website. You do not have the right to say whatever you want on here. You are expected to obey the rules just like anyone else. Not following the rules may get you banned. It is very simple. You are allowed to discuss anything provided it doesn't break the following rules.
Advertising
- Topics/posts that contain this will be both edited and locked. This is not an advertising forum. We have no problem with threads regarding gaming events or other communities but we do not accept unsolicited ads at any time.
Flaming
- Posts containing personal attacks on another user will be edited/deleted.
Spamming
- Posts that are just complete nonsense may be deleted. You do not need to post threads in multiple forums. You may ask a Moderator if you think the post is important.
Racism
- Topics/posts containing such will be edited/deleted accordingly.
Porn
- Topics/posts containing such will be deleted on sight. This is a severe offence. The minimum ban handed out will be one month. Permanent site-bans may also be handed out for this. If you are linking to an external website that might contain "newspaper" nudity or contains sexual reference, please make sure you mark it "Not safe for work" or “NSFWâ€Â.
Warez
- Topics/posts containing information on Warez, how to obtain such information or requests for such information will be deleted on sight. This is a severe offence. The minimum ban handed out will be one month. Permanent site-bans may also be handed out for this.
Off Topic
- Posts that stray off topic will be edited/deleted, depending on their relevance to the topic at hand. People who ignore a moderator's request to stay on topic may be banned.
- Threads may be split at an admin's discretion to ensure that the main thread stays on-topic.
Phone numbers
- Posting other people's phone numbers or other personal details without permission is a bannable offence. Feel free to post whatever personal information about yourself that you want but be warned that this is an internet forum and, as such, may not be totally secure.
Posting in "rtrd"
- Using txtspk n ur psts is cnsdrd been rlly stpd cuz u hv qwert kbd n ur pc so xpct 2 b wrnd. Please don't do this, this is not a bannable offence but repeat offenders might be "asked" to take a break from posting.
Personal Abuse
- Posters who abuse others on here will be banned. Yes - this has been said above but we want to make sure there's no confusion. Permanent bans will be handed out on a first offence if a moderator feels it is warranted. There is no argument on this one. Abuse someone and you will be banned. Calling someone an idiot is abuse. Don't attack the poster, attack the post.
- Posting PM's or Emails publicly without consent could be met with harsh consequences, especially if they do not have any place in the discussion.
Making the natives restless
- This is a catch-all rule for general trolling, bitching and similar. Certain posters have an ability to piss off large quantities of regulars on here. If a moderator feels that said poster is doing this intentionally or is the cause of the mess, then the poster can be banned. If this poster was being goaded by others, then they'll be the ones getting banned.
Drug Talk
- Discussion of drugs is allowed. Telling people where to buy or requesting that information isn't allowed. Magic Mushrooms, Salvia, DMT etc. are covered by this. Why? Because the Admins do not want to be held responsible for posts telling people where to get drugs of any kind. Simple. You can argue about the legality all you want as long as you understand the restrictions on such topics.
N.B. Magic Mushrooms have now been made illegal. Again, talking about them will not get you banned. Giving advice about how to take, grow, store or process them will get you banned.
Videos depicting violence, murder, cruelty etc
Showing these videos is only allowed under certain circumstances. News Articles which contain CCTV footage (which has been released by the police / families etc etc) is allowed provided there is a proper warning to go along with it. Videos depicting any of the above in a purely voyeuristic or morbid way i.e: Beheadings, Murder, Animal Cruelty used for propaganda purposes (PETA) or anything else that doesn't have comment or is inappropiate for public consumption, that hasn't been officially released by proper channels should not be posted here. IF IN DOUBT, PM AN ADMIN!
Arguing with a moderator
- Do not argue with a moderator in a thread after they have given a warning or a ban etc. If you have an issue with a moderator's action then PM the mod in question. They will discuss it with you. You can then, if unsatisfied with the outcome, take things to our IRC channel - #unreal.ie – and speak to a different Mod or Admin. This should never be necessary as all Mods are trusted to be objective and if one feels he can't be he will pass it on to the Admin team for discussion anyway.
Reporting Posts
Any thread or post that contravenes this charter should be reported. When reporting a post, make sure you have good reason. Someone disagreeing with you is not a troll, not all arguments are abusive etc. Abusing this feature is frowned upon. If you report a post, it is always a good idea to say so in a thread. It is not required though, but it does reduce the number of repeated reported posts.
Registering a New Account to Circumvent a Ban
- This will get all accounts site-banned.
General Posting Guidelines
Please navigate around the forums before starting a new thread.
Before you post a thread, consider the following:
- Is what I'm about to post relevant, coherent, funny or in any way interesting to other people?
- Does it add to the forum or is it another thread which is taking up space?
- Has it been posted before?
- Is it suitable for this forum?
- Is it respectful to other users (even when opinions differ)?
Your threads and posts should be well thought out and coherent. This isn't AOL, there is no need for txt/leet speak or excessive punctuation. If in doubt, use a spell checker before you post. Meaningful threads add to the community, throw away threads like "What is your favourite colour?" accomplish nothing. Always try to stay on-topic and contribute to a thread. Moderators are also there to help you if you have any issues or if you have any queries.
ALWAYS READ THE CHARTER!
This charter contains all the rules and guidelines. This charter may be updated at any time. Make sure you are up to date.
This is a requirement, and ignorance is not an excuse.
Serious offences may also result in bans from the game servers that we host and/or from our IRC channel.
This charter constitutes the rules and guidelines by which all members should conduct themselves.
Please Do not quote these rules at people, or use them as ammunition for point scoring in arguments.
The rules are here to be viewed by everybody at their own discretion, and if that's not enough there are forum moderators on the site to enforce them.
