Games Server Rules
Unreal.ie currently host 8 servers, 6 of which are available for any member of the public to play on regardless of their skill level. UT is a fun game so please try and keep the atmosphere on the servers as friendly and welcoming as possible.

Duplicated GUID's
If 2 or more players are found to be using the same GUID (UT2K4 "Key" ) that GUID will be banned. There are no excuses for ripping off the game - if you want to play online, buy your own copy.

Swearing
There are no explict rules regarding the use of "bad language", however, as there are several ladies and many younger players who frequent our servers, we would ask that explicit anatomical references not be used. If a Server Admin requests that certain language not be used you should comply with that request. See "Arguing with Admins" below.

Abusive language
As noted above, many younger and lower-skilled players may be playing - constantly saying "Pwnt!" "Owned" "Noob" etc does not encourage those players to use our servers and will not be tolerated. Remember, there was a time when YOU were a noob too!

Mid-game Voting (map change)
Put simply - don't do it. It is extremely annoying as it puts a message in the middle of the screen which obscures other player's view of the game. If all (or an overwhelming majority) agree (using the in-game text messages) then a mid-game vote is permissable. Any Admin on the server is at liberty to cancel a mid-game vote (and should do so) unless the above exception applies.

Kick Voting
This should only be used, if there is no Admin on the server, under the following circumstances.
a) Idling. Players who cannot continue with a game for any extended period shoud change themselves to "Spectator" as a curtesy to the other players. Anyone who does not may be subjected to a "kick-vote"
b) Excessive bad language or inappropriate behaviour. (See "Type Killing" and "Taunts" below).
In either case, if an Admin is present then they should be requested to deal with the problem rather than using the voting mechanism.

Type Killing
Anyone who deliberately kills another player who is "talking" is likely to be kicked from the server. While this can happen accidentally, it rapidly becomes clear if someone is doing it deliberately. This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and may lead to a total ban from all unreal.ie servers.

Binding "Taunt" animations to movement keys
This is indeed possible, but as the "taunt animations" have a different (smaller) "hitbox" to the standard animations, this constitutes cheating as the player will be harder to hit. Anyone caught using these binds will be asked to remove them immediately and will be kicked and may be banned from all unreal.ie servers if they refuse.

Map "Exploits"
A "Map exploit" is (probably) best defined as "the ability to access an area of the map not intended by the map author which gives a player accessing that area an unfair advantage". This is clearly unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Any player who repeatedly uses such exploits will be kicked and may be banned from all unreal.ie servers.

FakeNicking
FakeNicking (using a PlayerName which is not the name by which you are commonly known) is something which we would like to see used in moderation by players. The Unreal.ie servers are community servers, and much of the community spirit comes from playing regularly against people you know. FakeNicking detracts from that community spirit and therefore we would ask that regular users of the servers use the same nick as much as possible. While it is not a kickable offence to fakenick, we would ask that players think carefully before doing so.

There is, however, one instance where fakenicking will not be tolerated, and that is when the well-known nickname of another player is used deliberately for any reason.
Remember - nick changes are stored in the server logs and can be correlated with your GUID - you WILL be found out!

Voice and text "taunts"
Auto-taunts (Settings | Audio | AutoTaunts) are incredibly annoying - please ensure that this setting is OFF when playing on Unreal.ie servers. Manual taunts (voice or text) should be used sparingly if at all. Players ignoring requests to not use them may be kicked.

Arguing with an Admin
Don't. Just don't. In fact, don't even contemplate thinking about allowing the thought to cross your mind.

Rules about Rules
If a regular player (non admin) notices a breach in any of the above rules, or notices something that they would consider inapproprate behaviour on the game servers please feel free to contact an admin via irc or email. Please do not enter into a debate or start an argument with the offender as this can potentialy ruin the game for everyone else on the server.

Unreal.ie servers use the UTAN service to propogate a ban from 1 server to all the others. In essence this means that any ban is enforced on ALL the unreal.ie public servers.
If you have been banned and would like to have the ban lifted, please read this post on the unreal.ie forums. You will need to register on the forum in order to post.
